Indian Airlines and Air India are the two flag carriers of India. Indian Airlines operates directly with Air India, India's national carrier. Alliance Air, a fully-owned secondary of Indian Airlines, was renamed as Air India Regional.

Government of India approved plans to merge Indian Airlines with Air India. Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that Air India Limited (AI), India's national flag carrier and Indian Airlines Limited (IA), the government owned domestic airline. Indian Airlines was the second biggest airline in India after Jet Airways.

Indian Airlines headquarter is located in Delhi, India. Indian Airlines serves mainly on domestic routes, along with some international services to neighbouring countries in Asia. Ministry of Civil Aviation is the administer of Indian Airlines.

Indian Airlines operates an all-Airbus fleet consisting of the Airbus A320 family. The old fleets of Air India and Indian Airlines will also slowly be tinted in the new livery.
